The Day Heaven Knocked on Two Ordinary Doors (And Changed Everything) (Sermon)
God never seems to run out of unqualified people.
He could snap His fingers and turn stones into preachers, float down on a cloud and do it Himself, or just write the gospel across the sky in flaming letters. But for some reason He keeps showing up at the doors of regular folks and asking the same terrifying question: “Will you let Me do this through you?”
Moses was an eighty-year-old fugitive shepherd with a rap sheet and a speech problem. Mary was a teenage girl from a nowhere town who was engaged to a carpenter. The disciples were fishermen who smelled like bait and tax collectors nobody trusted. None of them applied for the job. None of them felt ready. All of them got picked anyway.
And the only thing they had in common? They eventually said yes.
God looked at Moses hiding in the desert and said, “I’m sending you back to the palace that wants you dead.” Moses started listing every reason it wouldn’t work: I’m too old, I’m not eloquent, they won’t listen, send somebody else. God basically answered, “I’m not looking for ability, I’m looking for availability. I’ll be your mouth. Just go.”
Then centuries later an angel crashes Mary’s quiet evening with the wildest announcement in history: “You’re going to give birth to the Son of God.” Mary’s first response is the most human question ever: “How?” Not “Why me?” Not “Are you sure you have the right girl?” Just “How?” Because she already knew the Who was standing in front of her. And when the angel said the Holy Spirit would do it, she gave the yes that split history in half: “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord. Let it be to me according to your word.”
The disciples didn’t even get an angel. They just got a Rabbi walking by the water saying, “Follow Me.” That was it. No resume. No interview. No five-year plan. Just “Come.” And something in them recognized the voice of the One they were made for, so they dropped their nets and walked.
God has never once been impressed with strength, talent, age, education, or platform. He’s always been drawn to surrendered hearts.
He doesn’t need your gifts nearly as much as He wants your yes.
Because the moment you give Him that yes, your weakness becomes His stage. Moses’ stutter becomes the microphone for miracles. Mary’s youth and obscurity become the womb for the Savior. The disciples’ ignorance becomes the classroom for the Holy Spirit to write the New Testament through fishermen’s hands.
Paul nailed it: “God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong.” Why? So that no one can brag in heaven except Jesus.
So here’s the question burning in my chest right now: What’s the door Heaven is knocking on in your life today?
That dream that feels too big.
That forgiveness that feels impossible.
That step of obedience that makes zero sense on paper.
That calling you keep pushing to tomorrow because “I’m not ready yet.”
God already knows you’re not ready. That’s the whole point. He’s not waiting for you to become awesome. He’s waiting for you to become available.
Moses eventually said yes and watched the Red Sea split.
Mary said yes and held the Savior of the world in her arms.
The disciples said yes and turned the planet upside down.
Your yes might look smaller than that. Or it might look bigger. Either way, it’s the same God waiting on the same answer.
Don’t worry about your weakness. Just bring Him your willingness.
Because Heaven is still looking for vessels.
And the only qualification has never changed.
Will you let it be you?
What’s the “yes” God is asking from you right now? Drop it in the comments. I’m praying for every single person reading this to have the courage to open the door when Heaven knocks. Your weakness is about to become His greatest miracle.
